McCHRYSTAL Relieved of Command

General Stanley Allen McChrystal, USA (born August 14, 1954) is the Commander, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A). He previously served as Director, Joint Staff from August 2008 to June 2009 and as Commander, Joint Special Operations Command from 2003 to 2008, where he was credited with the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, but also criticized for his alleged role in the cover-up of the Pat Tillman friendly fire incident. McChrystal has a reputation for saying and thinking what other military leaders are afraid to, one of the reasons cited for his current appointment, which he assumed on June 15, 2009. Following unflattering remarks about the vice president and other administration officials attributed to McChrystal's aides in a Rolling Stone article, McChrystal was summoned to Washington, D.C. and offered his resignation to Defense Secretary Robert Gates. He will be succeeded by 4 star General David Petraeus.

Now McChrystal has extended his “sincerest apology for this profile.” He went on to say: “It was a mistake reflecting poor judgment and it should have never happened. Throughout my career, I have lived by the principles of personal honor and professional integrity. What is reflected in this article falls far short of that standard.” This is a craven and unacceptable apology. McChrystal doesn’t deny or apologize or explain what he actually said. This would have been a perfect time for someone to have risen above tradition and for the good of our mission and had given the General all he needed to win the damn war. Nope. You're fired. We lost another great man to a thin skinned man child.

Whether you agree or disagree with the war, the strategy or the administration is not the what the controversy is about. The general made the president look incompetent by revealing the president has no idea what to do but play golf. This is a big no no in the chain of command and it had to be dealt with swiftly. You must at all times (save during rebellion) respect the chain of command and the general did not do this. However I feel these are not normal times and if someone if costing the lives or progress of victory let alone common sense something needs to be said. McCHRYSTAL is a mans man and more importantly a soldiers soldier. We wish you the best with honors and reverence.
